There are many brands to choose from and all have high and low points, so we have come up with our top-5, in alphabetical order and you tell us which one you would choose. Acura RDX Pros: Roomy cabin and cargo area, lots of available tech and a good looking interior with very little hard plastic. Flat floor in the back makes it comfortable for middle seat passengers. Great vehicle for a growing family. Cons: Track pad is difficult to use, there’s only one powertrain option and only two trims in Canada, but plenty of trims in the US making it quite an affordable option in the US. Audi Q5 Pros: Great all-rounder, it does everything really well and appeals to a lot of buyers with its light steering and easy handling. Cons: Needs an interior update, the screen seems like an afterthought sitting on top of the dash and with the removal of the centre console dial, there are some odd storage solutions. Although some may love the lighter steering, I also think that is a negative for some. BMW X3 Pros: Excellent handling SUV, engaging and entertaining. The steering is heavier than what you would find in the Q5 but you can change the heaviness of it depending on the drive mode you are in. BMW is moving more to a lighter steering feel. The infotainment system is fantastic, we like the option of controlling the screen at the centre console or using it as a touchscreen and this is a spacious compact SUV. Cons: The interior isn’t as nice as we expected, BMW added a fair amount of hard plastic to the cabin. The leather seats can look cheap. Genesis GV70 Pros: Strong performing engines, precise steering, smooth, quiet and upscale cabin, very beautiful interior. Cons: Small rear seat, no wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, sometimes we mix up the rotary dial and infotainment dial at times, they are very close together. Lexus NX Pros: Updated technology including, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, fully heated steering wheel, Lexus Safety System 3.0 and safe exit assist, comfortable cabin and 4 powertrain options including a hybrid and plug-in hybrid. The hybrid model is priced well and is our favourite NX model. Cons: The run-flat tires can get a little bit loud depending on the pavement you are driving on, piano black interior on the lower trims, could look a little more upscale for a Lexus on those So the list is Acura RDX, Audi Q5, BMW X3, Genesis GV70 and the Lexus NX. We also have some honourable mentions for brands like the: Alfa Romeo Stelvio Two powertrain options, a 2L turbocharged 4-cylinder with an 8-speed automatic transmission, 280 horsepower and 306 lb-ft of torque. The Quadrifoglio the more powerful Stelvio gets 505 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque. Porsche Macan Three powertrain options, the base model has a 2L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with a 7-speed automatic transmission, 261 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Other models available include the Macan S with 375 horsepower and the GTS, 434 horsepower. A Macan EV is coming soon. Mercedes-Benz GLC There is a new GLC model coming this year, but surprisingly this one holds up and is a great choice. The interior feels luxurious, the drive is refined, quick acceleration and the cabin is well insulated. Powertrain: There are two powertrain options, the base model has a 2L turbocharged 4-cylinder with a 9-speed automatic transmission, 255 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. The AMG 43 gets a biturbo V6 with 385 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque. Volvo XC60 With three powertrain options including a plug-in hybrid, all 4-cylinder powertrains and are matted to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Verdict In a segment that values outright luxury the Lexus LX is a tough, capable brute with a soft side. Overview The Lexus LX is a big, modern, full-size luxury SUV that hasn’t sacrificed its off-road toughness. Based on the new Toyota Land Cruiser, which is no longer offered in North America, the LX600 is powered by a 409-hp twin-turbo V-6 with a 10-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive. Rivals such as the BMW X7 and Cadillac Escalade offer a grander experience with a more adult-friendly third row, but the LX600 has other virtues. Instead of cold and corporate, it’s made for people who don’t mind getting sand between their toes. The LX600 is the epitome of glide, with a supple ride, adjustable air suspension, and comfy seats. But its stout body-on-frame construction and Land Cruiser DNA make it a luxury SUV that’s happy to go where the dirt is. What's New for 2023? Lexus delivered a completely new-generation LX last year and doesn’t make any major changes to it or 2023. If you're looking for luxury that rivals the Range Rover or top-spec models from BMW and Mercedes, you'll want to go with the Ultra Luxury trim, but doing so limits the cabin to just four seats. Engine, Transmission, and Performance The LX600 is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V-6 engine that makes 409 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. A 10-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive are both standard. This powertrain launched in the new Toyota Land Cruiser, which shares its mechanical underpinnings with the LX. Given Lexus's penchant for hybrid powertrains, we wouldn't be surprised to see a gas-electric setup under the LX's hood, similar to the one used in the 2022 Tundra pickup, but so far the company only offers this non-hybrid powertrain. On the road, the twin-turbo V-6 provides ample power as well as a refined nature suitable for a luxury vehicle such as the LX. In our testing the LX600 managed a 6.1-second zero-to-60-mph time, which will be more than enough for most drivers. Most models deliver a compliant ride, but those swooning over the F Sport model and its more aggressively-tuned suspension will have to put up with some ride harshness. Towing and Payload Capacity Every Lexus LX600 has an impressive towing capacity of 6000 pounds. Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG The LX600 earned fuel economy ratings of 17 mpg city and 22 mpg highway from the EPA, but we haven't had a chance to test it on our 75-mph highway fuel economy route. Interior, Comfort, and Cargo Inside, the new LX’s luxurious makeover is evident starting with a wide center console between the front seats that creates a cozy cockpit environment. Quilted leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped dashboard, wood trim, and smoked-chrome accents give the LX a high-end appearance and luxe ambiance. The entry-level Standard trim comes with room for five across in two rows of seats; the Premium, Luxury, and F Sport trims come with a third row of seats that increases passenger capacity to seven. The top-spec Ultra Luxury model is only offered as a four-seat layout, with dual captain's chairs in the second row divided by a center console, plus rear-seat entertainment displays and wireless smartphone charging capability. Overview The Cadillac Escalade has long served as the brand’s flagship, its huge size and aggressive looks broadcasting its extroverted, red-blooded American take on luxury. Despite being based on the same underpinnings as the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban and the GMC Yukon, the Escalade makes a solid case as a competitor to other large luxury SUVs like the Lincoln Navigator, Jeep Grand Wagoneer, and Mercedes-Benz GLS-class. That’s because the big Caddy features the brand’s most advanced technology and most luxurious features. Its cabin is lined with wood, leather, designer fabrics, and satin-finished metals. A large, curved display sweeps across the dashboard, serving as both a gauge cluster and an infotainment center. A host of driver-assistance features are available, including Cadillac’s excellent Super Cruise system, which combines adaptive cruise control with a hands-free driving mode. Buyers can choose from a strong 6.2-liter gasoline V-8 or a diesel-powered inline-six, and this year Cadillac adds a wild high-performance V-series model with mega horsepower to the Escalade lineup. Time will tell if the new hi-po Escalade is an elephant that can dance, but given the brilliant athleticism of Cadillac’s recent Blackwing-powered sedans, color us hopeful. What's New for 2023? This year marks the birth of the first V-series Escalade. The high-performance Escalade V is likely to be powered by a 682-hp version of the supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine borrowed from the 10Best award-winning CT5-V Blackwing sedan. It also rocks a menacing, blacked-out exterior appearance. The V model comes standard with all-wheel drive and sports six-piston Brembo performance brakes with red-painted calipers. The Escalade’s air suspension has been retuned to enhance handling in the V model. The Escalade V will go on sale in the summer of 2022 and will sit atop the Cadillac lineup with a $149,990 starting price. Pricing and Which One to Buy Luxury: $82,690 Premium Luxury: $91,490 Sport: $94,490 Premium Luxury Platinum: $108,990 Sport Platinum: $108,990 V-Series: $152,590 To deck out the Escalade with its best features, go for the Premium Luxury Platinum trim. It adds semi-aniline leather, 16-way power-adjustable front seats with massage, soft-close doors, and an AKG audio system with 36 speakers. It also comes standard with a self-parking feature, a head-up display, and adaptive cruise control. For performance fireworks, of course, there’s a one-letter answer: V. Engine, Transmission, and Performance Cadillac's biggest SUV is powered by a standard 6.2-liter V-8 engine that makes 420 horsepower and can deactivate half of its cylinders when cruising to save fuel; a 3.0-liter diesel inline-six is also available. A 10-speed automatic transmission is standard with both engines, and buyers can choose from rear- or all-wheel-drive setups. As with its siblings, the current-generation Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban and GMC Yukon, the Escalade rides on an independent rear suspension that provides additional third-row legroom, which was compromised in the previous solid rear-axle model. Higher-end trims also offer an air suspension with adaptive dampers. At our test track, the long-wheelbase Escalade ESV with the V-8 engine sprinted to 60 mph in just 5.9 seconds. The 277-hp diesel engine doesn’t deliver nearly the straight-line performance of the standard V-8, but for some buyers that compromise is worth the improved fuel economy and punchy 460 lb-ft of low-end torque. For those Escalade fans with a need for speed, only the V will do. It’s powered by a beastly supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 making 682 horsepower, which proved to be enough power to blast the big SUV to 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds at our test track. During our initial test drive, we were impressed with the V-8's power and its baritone burble. The modifications to the SUV's suspension make it handle better than the standard SUV, but the Escalade still doesn't feel as nimble as rivals such as the Mercedes-AMG GLS63 or the BMW Alpina XB7. In alphabetical order: Audi Q3 Powertrain: The Audi Q3 has one powertrain option at this time, the 40 TFSI is no longer list on the website. The 45 has a 2L turbocharged 4-cylinder with an 8-speed automatic transmission, 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Standard AWD. Pros: You can put regular fuel in the Audi Q3, it’s an affordable option, even the base model comes with plenty of standard features, it has a modern exterior and interior design with plenty of technology that is intuitive to us. Cons: Steering on the Audi Q3 is very light, offers less cargo space and the cabin isn’t as quiet as some of its competitions. BMW X1 Powertrain: 2L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with a 7-speed dual clutch transmission, 241 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, that’s up 13 horsepower and 37 lb-ft of torque from the outgoing model. Standard AWD. Pros: The BMW X1 has dynamic and agile handling, it’s fun to drive, it has a more powerful turbocharged 4-cylinder and a quieter cabin compared to the outgoing model. Cons: Although the BMW X1 iDrive 8 operating system is quick, most functions are now done in the touchscreen, there is no more dial at the centre console to control the screen. Cadillac XT4 Powertrain: 2L turbo 4-cylinder engine with a 9-speed automatic transmission, 237 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. FWD and AWD options are available. Pros: The Cadillac XT4 has a modern exterior design, good value, quick shifting 9-speed automatic transmission, plenty of power and a spacious interior. Cons: The Cadillac XT4 is missing that luxury experience on the inside, the tech needs to be updated Mercedes-Benz GLA/GLB Powertrain: The base is a 2L turbocharged 4-cylinder with an 8-speed automatic transmission, 221 horsepower and a 258 lb-ft of torque. AMG 35 has 302 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque and the AMG GLA 45 with 382 horsepower ad 354 lb-ft of torque. Standard AWD in Canada but there is a FWD option in the US. Pros:Both the Mercedes GLA and Mercedes-Benz GLB have a very pleasant and comfortable driving dynamics and dynamic enough for many buyers. The interior feels upscale and sophisticated. It has really held up all these years even though a new model is coming. The GLB is very practical with its boxy exterior design, it offers a lot of space including an available 3rd row. Cons: Mercedes GLA cargo space is small compared to much of the competition, the Mercedes-Benz GLB on the other hand keeps up better with the competition. On the GLA/GLB, Apple Carplay and Android Auto are not standard, you have to buy a package and the heated steering wheel is a la carte on the GLA. Volvo XC40 Powertrain: There are three powertrain options, including a pure EV. The gas models have a 2L turbocharged 4-cylinder and a mild hybrid system with either the B4 powertrain with 194 horsepower or B5 with 247 horsepower. The XC40 Recharge, the pure EV has a combined 402 horsepower and 359 km/ 223 miles of EV range. Pros: The Volvo XC40 is smooth and refined drive with a very comfortable cabin, the interior is upscale and elegant yet practical with beautiful materials used. In the US, AWD is only available with the more powerful B5 engine, B4 is FWD. In Canada, both the B4 and B5 are AWD models. Cons: The Volvo XC40 has a Higher driver seating position and may not work well for taller people. Volvo’s google based infotainment system is not intuitive to use and almost everything inside the cabin is controlled by the screen with only a few buttons inside the cabin. Now, BMW has decided to head into the future. The 2023 BMW XM is a hybrid super-SUV that is said to come with 644 horsepower. And not only that, but BMW came up with a pretty crazy design. It almost looks like a car straight out of the metaverse. But with that said, what is there to love about this car? Let’s find out, shall we? Hello everyone, and welcome back to our channel. Today, we will look at the 2023 BMW XM plug-in hybrid as we figure out what there is to love about this car. And with that said, let’s find out more about this BMW of the future. Whenever you hear of the BMW M series, you will immediately picture some of the sports sedans, such as the M3 and the M5. However, the performance division has decided to try out many new directions of late. This has led to the development of the new 2023 XM. This car combines many of these fresh elements into a single vehicle. After all, this is meant to be the M’s new flagship. Apart from being an SUV that is available exclusively as an M, the XM will introduce a new plug-in hybrid powertrain that will be the first hybrid ever to wear the M badge. The concept XM was released by BMW last year, and it was said to be a crazy plug-in hybrid SUV that was a preview of the brand’s first M-only model since the 1978 M1 supercar. Now, the production of the 2023 BMW XM is finally here. If we were to look at the reactions to the concept XM, the reactions to most new BMWs, as well as high-performance luxury SUVs in general, we could predict that most of you are going to hate this one. However, if you keep an open mind and expand your horizons, you will see that the new XM is awesome. Overall, the XM is about 2 inches shorter than the X7, which shares the same platform. Not only that, but the XM is also wider and lower, all thanks to the rakish roofline. The rear glass is more slanted than on the X7, but BMW does not refer to the XM as a coupe. BMW has tried to stick to the concept of XM, and they have really managed it. Just like in the concept, a piece of trim wraps around the windows, and it continues along the beltline, which is mostly gloss black but available in NightGold. That lovely gold trim can also be added to the outline of the kidney grilles and some parts of the diffuser for those who prefer that. When it is launched, there will be seven paint colors available at the time, but there will be more coming in the summer. At the end, more than 50 BMW individual colors will be available.The 2023 XM comes with 23-inch wheels wearing summer performance tires, and these will be standard across all trims. However, there will be 22s with aerodynamic inserts available, but these ones are optional. BMW will also offer a dual-color 23-inch wheel design, and it will have a center cap that features a 3D BMW script. For those who love the current BMW interior design, this might be bad news. Sadly, the interior of the XM does away with the three vertical air vents and the grab handle that are on the center console. However, BMW has ensured that it sets itself apart from the X7 by having a unique dashboard design and some interesting details. When it comes to the powertrain, the XM is expected to come with an updated version of BMW’s twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine that we know and love. This engine on its own can give the car up to 483 horsepower. But the XM also has a 29.5 kWh battery pack, of which about 25.7 kWh can be used, and an electric motor with 194 horsepower built into the 8-speed automatic transmission. This specific BMW will use a rear-biased xDrive all-wheel-drive system that provides fully controllable torque distribution from both the engine and electric motor to all four wheels. It also has an electronically controlled rear differential that ensures the most power is sent to the wheels with the least amount of understeering and loss of grip. In the summer of 2023, the limited-edition XM Label Red will arrive, and it will boost its power to 735 horsepower and 735 pound-feet. In addition, it will also come with unique paint, wheels, trim, and interior upholstery. The Label Red will have a starting price that is slightly higher than $185,000.
