Crazy Jane is a fantastic character who is part of a fantastic show. She’s played by the lovely Diane Guerrero in Doom Patrol which I highly recommend watching. The song used is ‘The Perfect Girl’ by Mareux. I’m aware that the song is very commonly used as part of that whole ‘literally me’ trend, but I mainly sought to use it here because I think it really fits well thematically with Crazy Jane and her story of trauma and pain. There are a lot of things I want to change about it but I just want to move on from this edit now so here’s to not letting the perfectionist inside of me win. That said, I absolutely adore Jane. She’s one of my favorite characters ever and I love that the show actually took the time to address her trauma rather than just moving on like it never happened. The same with all the other characters. Also Diane is amazing in this role and I’m so glad we get to see her in it. Side note: if you haven’t read her autobiography ‘In The Country We Love’ you really should. It’s brilliant but also gives such a huge insight into a really important issue. The way America and many other countries (including my own) treat refugees and asylum seekers and handle immigration is horrific and needs to change. Having chronic anxiety and depression means that I go up and down a lot, though the ups are more what you’d consider ‘normal’ moods or at least not too low, and the downs are really low. So I’m used to being sort of okay and then terrible, constantly. I use editing and writing to help me deal with that. I love Jane so much and the way that the show allows her to explore her trauma. So many shows don’t acknowledge the trauma a character has been through or if they do it’s only briefly or terribly done. So I really admire Doom Patrol for taking the time to do that, with all its characters. Some of the things Jane says really hit home in terms of my own experiences with depression and trauma. And I can really relate to her trying so hard to keep going, reaching points where she wonders what the point of doing so is, but pushes on anyway. I experience that struggle so much in my own life, every day since I was a child, and it meant a lot to see a character dealing with that as well (even if her circumstances are nothing like mine). So I had this about 90% finished last year (I just needed to add text effects which takes ages and I did that this year) so that’s why there’s nothing from s2 in this. I also haven’t been able to watch it yet since I’m in Australia so but I know it’s gonna be amazing when I finally get the chance to see it. Anyway, I hope you like this :) And, as I mentioned in my last vid, if you haven’t read Diane’s autobiography ‘In the Country We Love’, you really, really should. It’s an amazing and deeply honest read, and such an important perspective when it comes to refugees/asylum seekers and immigration (not just in America but all over the world). There are also very few visual clues to define Jane's many faces, though some do restyle their hair and makeup or have other identifying characteristics.
